New fatherhood looks to be agreeing with world number 72 Pierre-Hugues Herbert after the Frenchman jumped 20 places up the ATP world rankings at the Marseille Open two weeks ago. Herbert made it all the way to the final before losing to world number three Daniil Medvedev and even then in three sets after knocking out a talented draw of Kei Nishikori, Cameron Norrie, Ugo Humbert and, sensationally, Stefanos Tsitsipas. After seeing what is possible for the seasoned double player in a singles setting, Herbert has plenty of potential for a surprise run here in Miami. He has suited the underdog role recently but will have to cope as the favourite against Portugal’s Pedro Sousa, who has won just two matches on tour this year and not beaten a player inside the top 100.
