World number 93 Pedro Martinez enjoyed a good run at last month’s Australian Open, beating Yoshihito Nishioka and then Gael Monfils’ vanquisher Emil Ruusuvuori to reach the third round there, though he has not played a tour-level match since. The 23-year-old could have a shout here against world number 62 Tennys Sandgren as the American is in a poor run of form, with mentality looking is recent issue. 29-year-old Sandgren has looked frustrated on court this season and much of later last year, with a 1-3 record to show for 2021 so far after he lost in straight-sets to Felix Auger-Aliassime in Acapulco last week. This is a tough one to call based on Sandgren’s form. He should win this match on ability, and with slight home advantage in Florida, but there is a sense that he is not in the right place right now.
