Florida native Tommy Paul will face fellow American Marcos Giron in the first round of the Miami Open for what looks set to be a long and robust match. Two baseline battlers meeting for the first time in such a prestigious tournament often means a lot of working each other out on court and a limited home crowd will be a welcome return to two players who play better when supported. Just over 30 places separate the pair but world number 53 Paul is the higher-ranked player for a reason right now and his 2021 record reads a lot better than his compatriot’s. A 5-5 record for 23-year-old Paul, including impressive wins over Lorenzo Sonego and Alexander Bublik suggests he is in the better form as things stand. Giron ended last year excellently but looks to be way off it at this stage. Take Tommy Paul to win in three sets.
