THE PREDICTION

World number 56 Cameron Norrie claimed his best win of an impressive 2021 season so far last week at the Mexican Open when he beat Fabio Fognini in straight sets. The British number two would probably be back inside the top 50 now if the ATP rankings were not still being staggered, but the 25-year-old has good form to show for this first round Miami Open match having reached a semi-final at Delray Beach in January and the quarter-finals last week in Acapulco. World number 66 Yoshihito Nishioka, also 25, has struggled for form for some time now but at his best the Japanese number two is a difficult, unorthodox lefty that has troubled plenty of players ranked above him. The pair will meet for a third time in their careers in this first round match, with Norrie winning their previous encounter almost exactly two years ago in three sets. How many sets this falls in is completely down to which Nishioka turns up to play but Norrie’s form is good enough for a win here.
