THE PREDICTION
In a pretty rare occurrence on tour right now, the first and second seed at the Mexican Open have met in the final. World number five Stefanos Tsitsipas was assured in his dismissal of exciting new talent Lorenzo Musetti in a straight-sets semi-final win to reach the final here in Acapulco with very little strain, other than a tough quarter-final with Felix Auger-Aliassime. World number seven Alexander Zverev reached the final in much the same way, overcoming the world number 71 Dominik Koepfer in straight sets to reach this stage in Acapulco for a second time in three years. In 2019, the German lost to Nick Kyrgios in straight sets but the 13-time ATP title winner should fare a little better here having found a fresh mentality on court in recent months. However, the 23-year-old has struggled against Tsitsipas in their more recent meetings and only beat the Greek in their first ever match at the Citi Open in 2018. Since then, 22-year-old Tsitsipas has beaten Zverev five times in a row and in straight sets over the last three.
The pair have shared plenty of latter-stage bouts but this will be their first final and that is likely to push Zverev to a place where he can force a decider here. The safer option, though, between two determined, elite baseline players is to take Tsitsipas to beat Zverev for a sixth time and at least one tiebreak in the match.
