Sara Sorribes Tormo has been enjoying her best year on tour so far at a career-high WTA world ranking of 46th in the world and won her first ever title back in March in Guadalajara. The 24-year-old has faced world number three Simona Halep on clay once before and was blasted off the court at last season’s Roland-Garros but this promises to be a fantastic second meeting. 29-year-old Halep was stunned in Stuttgart last week by Aryna Sabalenka to miss out on the final but the Romanian remains a world-class clay-court competitor and she should be coming through this test. Set-wise it would be a surprise to see Sorribes Tormo push this close to a decider but the likeliest outcome is that Halep takes this first round match in two.
