This is a tough first round draw for Misaki Doi as she faces Japanese compatriot and world number two Naomi Osaka for the third time. 23-year-old Osaka won the Australian Open earlier this year on what is almost certainly her best surface and it could be argued that she struggles on clay but it is fairer simply to reiterate how much better she is on hard courts. Nevertheless, Osaka is in the running for any tournament she enters and she should get off to a flier here to make it three wins out of three meetings with Doi, who has never taken a set off the four-time Grand Slam champion.
