THE PREDICTION
30-year-old Alison Riske has played just one tour-level match in 2021 in a first round loass at the Australian Open and the American should have measured expectations about her chances of mounting a comeback here in Madrid with such a tough draw here. World number 27 Riske will face 19-year-old Iga Swiatek who already has excellent pedigree on this surface as the current Roland-Garros champion but the Pole has struggled for consistency since that historic Grand Slam title. World number 17 Swiatek has won a title this year, though, at the Adelaide International and she will be a dark horse for the title this week if she finds her rhythm early. Riske is an out-and-out battler but her lack of match practice right now should see this fall to Swiatek in two sets.
