THE PREDICTION
World number 67 Sorana Cirstea was offered a useful route through to the semi-finals of the WTA Istanbul Cup after Fiona Ferro was forced to retire from the second set. The 31-year-old has yet to drop a set this campaign on her favoured surface but faces a first meeting with future star Marta Kostyuk on Saturday. 18-year-old Kostyuk spent more than twice the amount of time on court than her semi-final opponent and did well to bounce-back from losing the second set to come through in three against a resurgent Ana Konjuh, with the Ukrainian in fine form this week. The teenager has already made a semi-final this year in Abu Dhabi and will be handful throughout but Cirstea’s experience on clay should see her through. It might be simpler to opt for three sets in this match but take the Romanian to win this outright given her assured form in Istanbul.
