World number 35 Sara Sorribes Tormo is an exciting player visibly evolving into a future top 20er on court this season. The 25-year-old won her first WTA title earlier this year on clay at the Guadalajara Open but she has an excellent game for all surfaces and she impressed greatly at both Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympic Games. 22-year-old Anna Kalinskaya qualified for the first round if Indian Wells comfortably and then beat Claire Liu in three sets to reach the second round on her debut. The world number 151 has found success in doubles this season but she reached the quarter-finals of the Monterrey Open earlier this year in singles too.
THE PREDICTION
This will be the first tour-level meeting between Sara Sorribes Tormo and Anna Kalinskaya with the Spaniard looking the solid favourite to reach the third round here for the first time. Sorribes Tormo has been in strong form in recent months with only players inside the current top 30 able to beat her since July. Take her to win this in comfortable straight sets.
