World number 27 Paula Badosa won her first WTA title earlier this season at the Serbia Open on clay but the Spaniard is excellent across all surfaces. The 23-year-old is one of tennis’ most improved players in 2021 after reaching the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros, the round of 16 at Wimbledon, and more recently the quarter-finals of both the Tokyo Olympic games and Cincinnati Open. 21-year-old Dayana Yastremska beat Elsa Jacquemot to reach the second round of Indian Wells. The 21-year-old is on a long journey back towards her career-high of 21st in the world set last season before a failed drugs test saw her banned until June this year when she was cleared of responsibility for the incident.
THE PREDICTION
Dayana Yastremska has already led a very interesting life in tennis with three WTA titles to her name before the unfortunate ban set her back six months, It will not be long before she is challenging the likes of world number 27 Paula Badosa again at the top-end of the WTA rankings but her recent results suggest there is more hard graft to be done in the meantime. Badosa is a wonderful player to watch with proven pedigree at the top events this season. The Spaniard can win this in two but it is safer to opt for the outright victory.
