World number four Alexander Zverev has won four titles this season in what could prove to be his best on tour. The 24-year-old won Gold at the Tokyo Olympic Games, two more Masters titles in Madrid and Cincinnati for a total of five ATP 1000 trophies and at the Mexican Open in Acapulco. Whilst his off-court saga continues bring his name into further disrepute, with the ATP finally announcing that they will investigate the allegations against him, the German may find a lukewarm reception at Indian Wells where he has previously made the round of 16 before defeat to Rafael Nadal in 2016. 20-year-old Jenson Brooksby will receive quite the opposite welcome as the new poster boy of American Men’s tennis. The world number 79 beat Cem Ilkel in straight sets on Friday to reach the second round on debut at Indian Wells in his first match back on tour since an incredible round of 16 exit to Novak Djokovic at the US Open.
THE PREDICTION
Jenson Brooksby is getting US fans excited about the future of Men’s tennis alongside Brandon Nakashima, also 20. The youngster reached the finals of the Hall of Fame Open before losing to Kevin Anderson, the semi-finals of the ATP 500 event in Washington where he lost to eventual champion Jannik Sinner and then a stunning run to the last 16 in New York, beating Taylor Fritz and Aslan Karatsev along the way. He took a set off Djokovic on a thrilling night just two days after an emphatic, exciting contest with Fritz that put his brand of tennis on the map and he should be able to trouble Alexander Zverev to no end here backed by a partisan crowd. Zverev is particularly strong in these conditions, where generating your own power is key, and he remains the favourite to win. Still, taking Brooksby to earn at least a set here looks a reasonable outcome in front of manic fans. This could be the match of the day.
