21-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime is up to a career-high 11th in the ATP world rankings after a superb run to the semi-finals of the US Open last month. The Canadian had previously set a personal Grand Slam record with a quarter-final exit at Wimbledon and he is getting closer and closer to breaking the top 10 and a first title win after eight finishes as runner-up so far in his young career. 33-year-old Albert Ramos-Vinolas dismissed an out-of-sorts Lorenzo Musetti on Friday, conceding just four games to the Italian in a comprehensive win. The Spaniard won the third title of his long career earlier this season with a three-set victory over Cam Norrie at the Estoril Open on his favoured clay but the former world number 17 is a consummate professional on all surfaces.
THE PREDICTION
Felix Auger-Aliassime has likely not been mentioned too often in conversations surrounding potential Indian Wells winners but the Canadian has played well under the radar in recent months and a semi-final exit to the eventual US Open champion Daniil Medvedev is strong form indeed. He has won both previous meetings with Albert Ramos-Vinolas in straight sets back in 2019 and that looks like solid evidence for the outcome here. Ramos-Vinolas will not make it easy but Auger-Aliassime should reach the third round without dropping a set here.
