THE PREDICTION

36-year-old Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is a firm home favourite at Roland-Garros and matches involving the Frenchman here can be emotionally charged these days as his career nears an conclusion. Tsonga has 18 ATP titles to his illustrious career but just one clay-court title to his name and at his peak he lost twice here at the semi-final stage in 2013 and 2015. That does not bode well for his chances against a tricky customer in 25-year-old Yoshihito Nishioka, who recently reached back-to-back quarter-finals in Lyon and Parma. The Japanese left-hander is a joy to watch and this should be a fantastic first meeting between the two in terms of spectacle that looks set to see at least four sets. To that end, take Tsonga to win at least a set here in front of his adoring fans, though this looks unlikely to end the way they would hope.
