THE PREDICTION
World number 50 Cameron Norrie weathered a strong performance from Spin’s Pedro Martinez in the round of 16 to eventually come through a three-hour three-set tussle well. The 25-year-old has been in excellent form all year and this is his fourth quarter-final of the season so far and second-successive after losing to Barcelona Open champion Rafael Nadal last week. Norrie has beaten four top 25 opponents already this season in Grigor Dimitrov, Fabio Fognini, David Goffin and Karen Khachanov so world number 22 Cristian Garin has his hands full here. 24-year-old Garin received a bye to the round of 16 and then was fast-tracked to the last eight after Richard Gasquet was forced to withdraw so the Chilean could be a little cold in his first match back since a disappointing loss to Stefanos Tsitsipas at the Monte-Carlo Masters earlier this month. Garin is excellent on this surface but Norrie’s performances have earned him the right to be considered strongly for this second meeting, especially as he leads their head-to-head record 1-0. This could go either way, so take the match to see three sets and leave a winner up to chance.
