THE PREDICTION
24-year-old Lloyd Harris is no stranger to success on tour by now but the South African is a far better player than his current ATP world ranking at 81 and his journey through the qualifiers to the semi-finals shows that. An incredible first round win over Dominic Thiem, the first seed here in Dubai, has been justified with strong performances over Filip Krajinovic and a resurgent Kei Nishikori on Thursday. He faces a player much more experienced in world number 12 Denis Shapovalov but still impossibly young at 21-year-old and the Canadian has been in vintage form this week. Shapovalov is yet to drop a set this week as the third seed and played exceptionally well to beat this new super-charged version of Jeremy Chardy in the quarter-finals. This has the essence of an upset about it for Harris, so opting for three sets and leaving a winner up to chance here seems a reasonable option. At a push, Shapovalov should be winning this first meeting between the two.
