THE PREDICTION
Federico Coria took out the sixth seed Dominik Koepfer in the first round of the Cordoba Open before coming back from a set down to make it through the round of 16, whilst Benoit Paire’s journey as the second seed has been fairly straightforward with a comfortable victory over Nicolas Jarry on Thursday. Coria was the surprise winner in the only previous meeting with Benoit Paire with one of the best victories of his career at last year’s Roland-Garros, beating the Frenchman in four sets. Whilst Paire was not at the races throughout much of the second half of the season, the 31-year-old will be eager to repay the favour here in Coria’s native tournament and the world number 29 is a seasoned clay-court player. All three of Paire’s ATP titles have come on this surface and he is a big threat in this draw alongside the likes of Diego Schwartzman. He can often be pegged back a set when not at his best but Paire to come through this in three sets seems the likeliest outcome.
