THE PREDICTION

17-year-old Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune won his first match on tour in the first round of the Chile Open and then provided a huge shock on Wednesday by taking out an out-of-sorts Benoit Paire, though take nothing from the Dane’s performance in an incredible straight-sets victory. Rune is through to the quarter-finals of a tournament at just his second attempt after losing in the first round of the Argentina Open last week in three sets to Albert Ramos-Vinolas and the win over second seed Paire should keep his adrenaline up for the next few weeks let alone this match. Federico Delbonis has the unwelcome task of having to beat the teenager after the Argentine beat Andrei Martin in comfortable straight sets and the 30-year-old should be professional enough to see this tricky test through. Clearly Rune has a career ahead of him but 30-year-old Delbonis is a grafter and should be able to wait out any flurries from his 17-year-old opponent. It could go to a decider but Delbonis to reach the semi-finals in straight sets is the unromantic, likely option here.
