THE PREDICTION
World number 118 Facundo Bagnis was exceptional in taking out the fourth seed Frances Tuafoe on Wednesday to reach the quarter-final here in Santiago just a week after Tiafoe beat him in the first round of the Argentina Open. This is the 31-year-old’s second quarter-final on this South American swing and the Argentine made it all the way to the semis of the Cordoba Open before losing to eventual runner-up Albert Ramos-Vinolas in three. It could take a deciding set to separate him from Laslo Djere as they meet on tour for the first time, after the Serb came back from a set down to beat Pedro Sousa on Wednesday. The world number 57 is through to his second-successive quarter-final after losing out to Miomir Kecmanovic last week in Buenos Aires and seems to be struggling to find his top gear just yet that has seen him win two ATP titles on clay. Djere should be able to see this through to the semi-finals, on paper, but it could be worth settling for three sets in this tie and leaving it there.
