THE PREDICTION
World number 46 Albert Ramos-Vinolas has coped well with the disappointment of losing the Cordoba Open last week to 19-year-old tour debutant Juan Manuel Cerundolo by reaching the quarter-finals of the Argentina Open. A first round wobble against Holger Rune was quickly stabilised before the Spanish fifth seed overcame Dominik Koepfer in two to reach this stage and meet Sumit Nagal on tour for the first time. 23-year-old Nagal is the current world 150 and he is playing out of his skin in Buenos Aires having beaten Joao Sousa comfortably before taking out the second seed Cristian Garin in straight sets. This should be a fascinating match as the Indian is well capable of an upset but 33-year-old Ramos-Vinolas is a strong professional and will not underestimate his opponent. Nagal’s victory over Garin was impressive but the Chilean was returning from injury this week to take just a little shine off of that. Seven of the Spaniard’s last eight matches have seen a set for both players, though, so a Ramos-Vinolas win in three sets looks the likeliest route to the semi-finals.
