THE PREDICTION
World number 64 Jeremy Chardy continued his fine 2021 form with a round of 16 victory over recent Montpellier Open champion David Goffin via two strong tiebreak performances. The Frenchman has been excellent so far this season and came back from a set down against compatriot Ugo Humbert in the first round to claim another scalp alongside other big names this year like Fabio Fognini and Marin Cilic. He will face Andrey Rublev for a third career time in probably the best form he has exhibited for years and he could trouble the world number eight throughout. Rublev came through a high-quality encounter with the returning Andy Murray on Wednesday night, keeping his serve throughout a straight-sets tussle, and that confidence should take him on to the latter stages of this tournament as probably the favourite for the title now. Rublev is a flat-track bully of the highest degree and can often defeat players outside the top 20 in vicious straight-set hammerings. Chardy, though, looks up for this and could well take the Russian to a tiebreak or two. Therefore, Rublev to win a match featuring at least one tiebreak looks a useful combination here.
