REILLY OPELKA

  • Dusan Lajovic took the first set against the third seed Stefanos Tsitsipas at the China Open last week but went on to lose their first-round match.
  • Serbian Lajovic has suffered a couple of poor defeats before Tsitsipas, losing out to world number 111 Denis Kudla at the US Open and then Lloyd Harris at the Chengdu Open.
  • The 29-year-old, ranked 29th in the world, is searching for his first win at this tournament after losing his only previous first-round match to John Isner in 2017.

THE PREDICTION

Reilly Opelka is still something of an unknown entity on the tour as the latest in a long line of giant big-serving Americans with some glimpses of footwork that has caught the likes of Stan Wawrinka out this year. He takes on Dusan Lajovic for the first time here, with the Serbian ranked almost 30 places higher than him in the ATP rankings. You could argue, though, that these players could switch their ranks and go unnoticed, and Opelka has the game to prove that in a win here.
