Talia Gibson continued her brilliant run of form as she thrashed Sara Bejlek in the first-round of the Miami Open. Bejek has picked up a title this season at the Abu Dhabi Open, but she was far from her best as Gibson strolled to a 6-1 6-0 victory. The 21-year-old converted all six of her break point opportunities. Including qualifiers, the Australian has won nine of her last 10 matches, having reached the quarter-finals of Indian Wells.
Naomi Osaka is her second-round opponent. The four-time Grand Slam champion reached the round-of-16 at Indian Wells, before a loss to world number one Aryna Sabalenka. That was her first event since withdrawing from the Australian Open, with Osaka competing in just two events this season, aside from the United Cup.
Osaka leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a win over Gibson at Wimbledon last year. There are few players with a better run of results than the Australian at the moment, and she will be relishing the prospect of taking on Osaka.
