Talia Gibson pulled off an upset in the second-round of Indian Wells as she beat world number 11 Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets. Gibson saved all seven break points on offer, winning 6-3 7-5 after one hour and 33 minutes.
She faces Clara Tauson next. The Dane came out on top against Yulia Putintseva in the second-round. The first set saw breaks being traded regularly, leading to a tiebreak. Tauson saved two set points and went on to win it 11-9. That proved to be a pivotal moment, as she raced clear in the second to win 7-6 (9) 6-2. She now has four wins from her last five matches, having reached the quarter-finals in Dubai.
Tauson was not at her best in the previous round, but she will still be a clear favourite against the qualifier. If she improves on her serving display, the Dane should be able to dominate her service games and dictate a lot of the rallies.
