The prediction

Grand Finalists in 2024, Sydney backed that up with a hugely underwhelming campaign in 2025, with the Swans finishing in tenth place, failing to even make the finals series.

Some promising pre-season performances though, coupled with the acquisition of former Carlton man Charlie Curnow, have created a feeling that the Swans can reassert themselves as one of the leading AFL teams this season.

Similarly, Carlton didn't set the world alight last season, finishing one place worse off than their Round 1 opponents. They also have cause for optimism, with Jagga Smith and Harry Dean in-line to make their debuts for the visitors, but head coach Michael Voss is a man under pressure after last season's shortcomings, and that may well filter through to the players.

Former powerhouses Sydney should have the edge here. Backed by what is likely to be a raucous crowd at the SCG, a home victory is on the cards.
