The prediction
Brisbane Lions' bid to go back-to-back-to-back suffered a blow last week when they were handily beaten by Sydney at the SCG, with Chris Fagan's side simply not up to the task against a Swans outfit who were missing some key players.
However, the Lions did it the hard way in both 2024 and 2025 by losing their qualifying final, and there is an inner belief that they can bounce back once again and contest the grand final.
Adelaide ended their nine-year wait for a finals victory by defeating the Bulldogs by 22 points at the Oval last weekend. Last year's minor premiers withstood a strong comeback from their opponents, but they must now defeat the Lions at the Gabba for the first time in eight years.
History is on the side of the Lions, who are vastly experienced now in these crucial games. Last week's defeat to Sydney will surely have shocked them into action and they have to be fancied at the Gabba.
