On the back of a statement win away at Bayer Leverkusen, Stuttgart can put further pressure on their fellow Champions League chasing rivals with another big win, this time against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Stuttgart preview: Statement win

For Stuttgart to head into the BayArena and ruthlessly take down a red-hot Bayer Leverkusen, speaks volumes as to how good this side is and how they are very much likely to be in the fight for the Champions League places until the very end of the season. A magnificent first-half showing stunned the hosts and saw Stuttgart lead 0-4 at the interval.

Sebastian Hoeness’ side have now recorded seven points from the last nine available to them and are edging ever closer to the top four with themselves, Leverkusen and RB Leipzig all on 29 points heading into the midweek round of games.

Eintracht Frankfurt preview: Dortmund thriller

Eintracht Frankfurt played out yet another Bundesliga thriller in their first game back post-winter break. Their last game before Christmas saw them draw 1-1 with Hamburg and this time around, they played out a 3-3 draw at home against Borussia Dortmund in the Friday night match-up.

However, they’ll be a huge tinge of regret that Eintracht didn’t come away with all three points. After trailing twice, the hosts took the lead in the 92nd minute before giving up a 96th minute equaliser.

Stuttgart team news: El Khannouss still away

The Africa Cup of Nations continues to rule El Khannouss out of selection contention and Zagadou is not expected to recover in time to play any part of this game.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Nubel; Vagnoman, Hendriks, Chabot, Mittelstadt; Karazor, Stiller; Leweling, Nartey, Fuhrich; Undav

Unavailable: El Khannouss (International duty), Jaquez (Injured), Jovanovic (Injured), Tomas (Injured), Zagadou (Injured)

Questionable: Al-Dakhil (Illness), Darvich (Injured)

Eintracht Frankfurt team news: Burkardt blow

The news that Jonathan Burkardt is likely to be out until late February is rough from Eintracht’s point of view, but they proved this past weekend that they can compensate for his absence.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Santos; Kristensen, Koch, Theate, Brown; Dahoud, Hojlund; Doan, Gotze, Uzun; Ebnoutalib

Unavailable: Batshuayi (Injured), Baum (Injured), Burkardt (Injured), Chandler (Injured)

Questionable: Bahoya (Illness), Chaibi (International duty)

Stuttgart vs Eintracht Frankfurt prediction

When taking into account how good both of these two teams were from an attacking perspective last time out, it would be a big surprise if we didn’t multiple goals over the course of this match. Offense is the strong suit of each side, particularly Eintracht Frankfurt when you consider their defensive struggles across the season. Their best chance of getting a positive result here is likely to be by taking the game to their opponents and pushing multiple bodies forward.

Stuttgart will need to be as clinical as they were in Leverkusen and their in-form attackers should find success against this poor Eintracht backline. But keeping a clean sheet will prove a tough challenge and the smart move would be to back both teams to score and over 2.5 goals in total.

Stuttgart vs Eintracht Frankfurt tip: Over 2.5 goals and both teams to score
