Stan Wawrinka vs Jesper de Jong prediction
Stan Wawrinka is set to compete in his final French Open, as he is set to retire at the end of the season. Wawrinka won the title in 2015, coming from a set down to beat Novak Djokovic in a stunning final. The 41-year-old pulled out of Italian Open qualifying but competed at the Geneva Open. He won his first-round match against Raul Brancaccio but then lost to Alex Michelsen.
Arthur Fils’ withdrawal has opened up a spot for Jesper de Jong in the draw, with the lucky loser now set to play the three-time Grand Slam champion. The Dutchman lost in the final stage of qualifying to Michael Zheng in straight sets. De Jong has been competitive on the Challenger Tour on clay, with a semi-final appearance in Murcia, along with a quarter-final finish in Cagliari.
Wawrinka now has a far more presentable opportunity of a win in round one, but De Jong should be able to create opportunities.
