Two-time former champion Stan Wawrinka rolled back the years with a hard-fought win on his last appearance in Geneva.
The Swiss veteran clinched a narrow 6-2 4-6 7-6 triumph over lucky loser Raul Brancaccio and now meets Alex Michelsen for the first time.
The American has shown very little form on clay this year, but did spring something of a surprise against surface specialist Sebastian Baez in the first round, courtesy of a 7-5 6-3 victory.
Had it not been for that first round performance, we’d be thinking Stan could do something here, but maintaining the high level throughout against the world number 41 will be tough and we lean heavily towards Alex in this showdown.
