St. Pauli preview: Losses stacking up
It’s officially panic stations for Alexander Blessin and St. Pauli, who have now lost seven straight games in the Bundesliga. Those defeats have seen them drop into the bottom three amid a sense of bewilderment among St. Pauli supporters. Their side started the season well but have since falled off a cliff.
Right now, it’s not been good enough at both ends of the pitch. They’ve scored just nine league goals all season, an average of less than a goal per game, whilst conceding an average of two goals per match with only Augsburg having conceded more.
Union Berlin preview: Backing up Bayern
Union Berlin were given next to no chance by the vast majority coming into their most recent league fixture at home to runaway leaders Bayern Munich. But a fantastic showing saw them come so close to stunning Vincent Kompany’s side and subjecting them to a first defeat of the season in all competitions.
In the end, a late goal from Harry Kane forced a 2-2 draw and meant that Union had a settle for a point, the first point to be taken off Bayern in the Bundesliga this campaign. Now it’s about following that up with another good result here on the road.

St. Pauli vs Union Berlin prediction
Two teams on opposite ends of the confidence scale meet at the Millerntor with St. Pauli desperate to somehow turn their rotten form around, whilst Union Berlin look to secure their first win since beating Borussia Monchengladbach last month to really climb up the table at pace. To take a point against Bayern and almost win the game will have proven such a big boost for the Union squad, giving them the belief that they can beat anyone on their day.
The first goal will be absolutely critical here as it’s so easy to see St. Pauli going into their shells if they concede first and the home crowd begin to get restless. Union can play with more freedom and the shrewd move would be backing them to pick up something out of this one via the double chance market, whether that be a draw or win.
