St Pauli preview: Struggling St Pauli

St Pauli begin the 14th match day of the 2025/26 Bundesliga campaign sitting tucked inside the bottom two and the automatic relegation places with a poor run of form that was at least halted slightly by a draw last weekend.

The home team went away to Cologne at the RheinEnergieStadion and managed to earn themselves a 1-1 draw. New German international Said El Mala scored in the 51st minute before Ricky-Jade Jones snatched a second-half stoppage-time equaliser.

Heidenheim preview: Fighting Heidenheim

Heidenheim managed to start the season with just one win in their opening 11 matches of the campaign but the hosts, who have overperformed in recent seasons, have now enjoyed back-to-back victories ahead of this week.

After they defeated Union Berlin by two goals to one a couple of weeks ago, Heidenheim then managed to defeat Freiburg by the same scoreline at the Voith-Arena last week with goals from Patrick Mainka and a late Stefan Schimmer winner.

St Pauli team news: Hountondji a doubt

Former Burnley striker Andreas Hountondji remains a doubt for the hosts this week. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see former Peterborough United striker Ricky-Jade Jones now get himself a start for this one.

Predicted XI (3-3-2-2): Vasilj; Wahl, Smith, Mets; Pryka, Sands, Oppie; Fujita, Irvine; Kaars, Pereira Lage

Unavailable: Nemeth (Injured)

Questionable: Hountondji (Injured)

Heidenheim team news: A few issues

Heidenheim head to the Millerntor with plenty of injury issues as Sirlord Conteh, Mikkel Kaufmann and Budu Zivizvadze all unavailable, while Frank Feller and Leart Paqarada remain long-term absentees.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Ramaj; Keller, Mainka, Gimber; Busch, Niehues, Dorsch, Fohrenbach; Honsak, Schoppner; Pieringer

Unavailable: Feller (Injured), Paqarada (Injured)

Questionable: Conteh (Injured), Kaufmann (Injured), Zivzivadze (Injured)

St Pauli vs Heidenheim prediction

There is a good argument to suggest that these will be the two sides that occupy the bottom two when the music stops at the end of the season. Both St Pauli and Heidenheim are very limited in terms of their quality and it is unlikely to be a thriller for the neutral in that regard with it being likely quite tense and nervy, decided by fine margins. As a result, a low-scoring encounter is to be expected.

St Pauli vs Heidenheim tip: Under 2.5 goals
