It is a fierce south coast derby that is the showpiece event in the EFL this weekend, with Southampton welcoming arch-rivals Portsmouth to St Mary’s for this one.

Southampton vs Portsmouth prediction

Southampton will be delighted to have finally come through an extremely busy summer transfer window, with the Saints desperate to get back to footballing matters. Will Still’s side have been unconvincing thus far, having collected five points from their opening four matches, and their one win against Wrexham being relatively fortunate.

They now face a Portsmouth side that, coached by John Mousinho, have been brilliant in the last couple of seasons and Pompey, having entered into a second season back in the second-tier, will fancy themselves to kick on again this year. They have started their campaign by collecting seven points from their opening four matches.

Southampton have the home advantage and some real big money stars, but finding some cohesion will take time, and it could well be a good value bet to side with Pompey to spring a surprise.

Southampton vs Portsmouth tip: Double chance – Portsmouth to win or draw
