As we so often see when the pressure is on, Somerset pull through. On Friday night with their knockout qualification hopes on the line, Taunton was jubilant as the home side took care of the 9-1 Northampton Steelbacks with ruthless efficiency, winning by seven wickets. Two days later, Somerset return home for what is effectively a knockout game against Worcestershire Rapids. Both teams are locked on 24 points so the winner will qualify for the quarter-finals, whilst the losers are eliminated.
Somerset have been in this position plenty of times and despite the Rapids having an excellent season, it’s a huge ask for them to come to Taunton against a line-up who is just starting to click together nicely and win. The power leans towards Somerset and no Sikandar Raza is a big blow for the visitors. It would be a surprise if the hosts didn’t come out on top and secure yet another appearance in the last eight of the Blast.
