Solana Sierra vs Karolina Pliskova prediction
Solana Sierra continued her brilliant run in Madrid as she recovered from a poor start to beat Zeynep Sonmez. The Argentine lost the first six games but quickly responded by winning five on the bounce as she took the second set with ease. Two more breaks in the third were enough for Sierra to seal a 0-6 6-2 6-3. She is into the round-of-16 at a WTA 1000 event for the first time.
She now goes up against Karolia Pliskova. The former world number one recovered magnificently to beat Elise Mertens in three sets. Pliskova looked down and out as she went 4-1 down in the decider, but she reeled off three games in a row to draw level, before edging ahead in the tiebreak to win 7-5 2-6 7-6 (3).
They played each other for the first time earlier this year in Doha, with Pliskova easing to a 6-1 6-2 victory. Sierra has performed strongly across her matches so far, but the Czech has enough experience to get through this one.
