Solana Sierra began her Indian Wells campaign in impressive fashion as she came from a break down in each set to beat Peyton Stearns in the first-round. Stearns was coming off her title win at the ATX Open, but the Argentine was too strong. However, she was blown away by defending champion Mirra Andreeva in her next match, failing to even muster a game. She then competed in Austin but lost in three sets to Bianca Andreescu in round one.
Jaqueline Cristian showed a good level at Indian Wells as she came from a set down to get past Janice Tjen and Maya Joint. However, her run would end against world number one and eventual champion Aryna Sabalenka as she lost in straight sets. She is yet to match her quarter-final appearance in Adelaide at the start of the year, but Cristian has still been solid so far.
Sierra lacks the weapons to create too many problems on this surface, and Cristian may be able to win this in straight sets.
