After a poor loss to Renata Zarazua in Charleston, Sloane Stephens competed at the Linz Open last week. The 2017 US Open champion came from a set down to beat Tatjana Maria in round one, before a loss to top seed Mirra Andreeva in straight sets. An injury to her right foot disrupted Stephens for much of last year, but she has managed to string a consistent run of matches together in 2026, though the results are still lacking.
She faces Veronika Podrez in the first-round. Podrez breezed through her two qualifying matches to enter the main draw. The Ukrainian teenager has won eight titles on the ITF circuit, including a title in the Hauge two months ago. This will be her first ever tour-level match on the WTA.
Stephens has a lot of experience on her side, and she should have too much for the youngster in this opening round encounter.
