Sloane Stephens vs Lucrezia Stefanini prediction
Sloane Stephens makes her return after seven months away from the tour after being handed a wildcard for the Guadalajara Open. Stephens stepped away in February after a foot injury, having already lost her first four matches of the year. The former US Open champion has now dropped out of the top 900 in the world rankings.
She will face Lucrezia Stefanini in round one. The Italian enters the main draw as a qualifier but lost in the first-round of the 125 tournament last week to Emiliana Arango in straight sets. She previously lost in the final stage of qualifying for the US Open and has just one victory on the WTA Tour all season after a win in Prague. Stefanini has not been able to get past the last eight in any of the ITF events she’s competed in this year.
Though Stefanini has not enjoyed the best season, Stephens will be struggling in terms of match fitness having been out for so long. The Italian should be expected to come out on top.
