Shuai Zhang’s poor run of form continued in Stuttgart as her losing streak extended to six matches. She looked on course for a surprise win after taking the first set against Linda Noskova, but she went on to lose in three. The Chinese player has failed to notch up a victory since her run to the semi-finals of the Merida Open, her best result of the season.
Eva Lys is her first-round opponent. She pulled off a brilliant comeback win in Stuttgart last week, as she came from a set and a break down to beat former world number two Paula Badosa in the first-round. However, she was blown away in her next match, picking up just one game as she was on the end of a thrashing by Elina Svitolina.
Lys will hope to recapture the level that saw her come back and beat Badosa, but Zhang needs a victory after a tough spell.
