Shuai Zhang produced a magnificent comeback to defeat Cristina Bucsa in the first-round of the Strasbourg Open. Bucsa took the first set with ease and looked on course for the next stage as she went 5-2 up in the second. However, she was broken to love when serving for the match, with Zhang then saving a set point in each of her next two service games. She would take the contest into a deciding set, with Bucsa once again failing to serve it out. Zhang held her nerve to win 2-6 7-6 (7) 7-5.
She now plays Diane Parry after she beat Emma Raducanu in the first-round. Parry, who won a 125k title in Paris last week, extended her winning run to six matches with a straight sets win. Raducanu went 4-2 up in the first set, with Parry then reeling off four games in a row. A strange second set saw Parry fail to serve it out on two occasions, though she controlled the tiebreak to win 6-4 7-6 (4).
