Sevilla preview: Sevilla’s struggles

For the last few years, Sevilla have been circling the drain in La Liga and the fallen giants of Spanish football could well find themselves in a relegation battle, especially after a difficult summer transfer window which ended with the sale of Dodi Lukebakio.

The Andalusians did, though, earn themselves a 2-1 victory against Deportivo Alaves in the Basque Country at the weekend. It featured a 67th minute winner scored by former Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez, who joined as the Lukebakio replacement.

Villarreal preview: Back on track

It has been an impressive few years for Villarreal following the appointment of former Valencia boss Marcelino, and the Yellow Submarine began this campaign well and they managed to get themselves back on track with a hard-fought win the other day.

Villarreal edged past Osasuna by two goals to one at El Madrigal. Osasuna went down to ten men in the 40th minute but still took a first-half lead via Ante Budimir. Goals from Georges Mikautadze and Pape Gueye turned things on its head in the second-half.

Sevilla team news: Alfon a doubt

After joining from Celta Vigo over the summer, Alfon has enjoyed a strong start to life in Seville, but the versatile attacker is now a doubt due to injury for this midweek.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Vlachodimos; Cesar Azpilicueta, Nianzou, Marcao; Jose Angel Carmona, Agoume, Mendy, Suazo; Vargas, Sanchez; Isaac Romero

Unavailable: Ramon Martinez (Injured), Joan Jordan (Injured)

Questionable: Alfon (Injured)

Villarreal team news: Several absentees

Villarreal are dealing with several injury issues for this week, and they have two fresh concerns with both Juan Foyth and Ayoze Perez sidelined for the visitors through injury.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Junior; Pau Navarro, Rafa Marin, Veiga; Alfonso; Buchanan, Partey, Gueye, Alberto Moleiro; Pepe, Mikautadze

Unavailable: Costa (Injured), Kambwala (Injured), Foyth (Injured), Pau Cabanes (Injured), Gerard (Injured), Ayoze (Injured)

Questionable: Akhomach (Injured)

Sevilla vs Villarreal prediction

Sevilla’s performance level hasn’t been as bad as to be expected so far this season. They do, though, simply have a limited squad and their only victories look likely to come against the poorer sides in the division and still in fairly unconvincing fashion, like against Alaves. Villarreal do not fall into that category and, despite a slight wobble recently, have a very deep squad that should be able to find a way to win in Seville, or at least avoid defeat.

Sevilla vs Villarreal tip: Double chance – Villarreal to win or draw
