Ajla Tomljanovic comes into Rabat with a point to prove after a poor clay court season up to this point. It began with a first-round loss at the Charleston Open to Donna Vekic, and another early defeat to Dalma Galfi in Madrid. The Australian then extended her losing streak to four matches overall after a loss at the event in La Bisbal D'Emporda to Sara Sorribes. Tomljanovic only entered the draw in Rome as a lucky loser, and then lost in the first-round once again.
Sada Nahimana has put together a respectable season, mostly at ITF level. She’s been collecting wins consistently, especially on clay, and she will now be hoping to push higher‑ranked players at events. The 25-year-old is ranked outside of the top 200 in the world, but she has advanced to two finals this year, along with another semi-final.
Tomljanovic has far greater experience at this level, but her form on clay is a worry. She should have too much for the lower-ranked Nahimana, but she will need to start well.
