French Top 14 winners and European Champions Toulouse got their new campaign off to a flier by re-asserting their dominance over last year’s nearest rivals la Rochelle. A 16-20 away win at La Rochelle is an excellent place to start your title defence and they already look a level above the rest of the division at this early stage. Toulon travel off the back of an exciting 24-24 draw at home to Montpellier, although likely more exciting for their visitors. They struggled to maintain their best level for significant periods of time last season and finished a disappointing eighth in the table, with improvements required this time around if they are to challenge for the play-offs. A trip to Toulouse is unlikely to help matters, with the hosts well capable of covering -15 here.
