THE PREDICTION
Lyon came off the worse in an exciting tussle with current joint-league leaders La Rochelle last weekend, losing 38-23 on the road. At home, though, Lyon are a force of nature and they could be influential in ruining Clermont Auvergne’s chase of the top two here if recent results are anything to go by. The hosts have beaten Toulon and Toulouse in their two most recent home games and on the few occasions they have lost here this calendar year it was in shocks by smaller teams like Pau and Castres. Visiting Clermont have won five of their last seven matches over all competitions and three of those have been on the road. Despite a game in-hand after last week’s postponement, they remain within eight points of leaders Toulouse and this match has all the hallmarks of a season definer with some incredibly tough fixtures incoming. It should be a close and potentially tetchy encounter on Saturday but take Lyon to defend their turf doggedly to cover -3 at home.
