Roman Andres Burruchaga continued his excellent form as he advanced to his first ATP Tour final with a crushing win over compatriot Thiago Agustin Tirante. It was an unbelievably dominant victory, as Burruchaga won all 24 of his first serve points and did not concede a break point on his way to winning 6-1 6-1 after just an hour and one minute. He won a Challenger event in Sao Paulo last week and has now picked up nine victories in a row.

He takes on Tommy Paul. The fourth seed ended Frances Tiafoe’s hopes of a fourth straight final in Houston as he won a tight semi-final match. Paul took the first set, but Tiafoe would hit back by winning the second. Breaks were exchanged in the decider, which went to a tiebreak. Paul would squeeze through to win 7-5 4-6 7-6 (7), converting his fourth match point.

This is Paul’s first tour-level final on clay, and he starts as the firm favourite. However, Burruchaga is performing brilliantly at the moment and he should be able to make this a closely contested match.
