Roma preview: The era of Gasp

Roma have been underwhelming for a while but the Giallorossi have embarked upon a new era with the appointment of Atalanta legend Gasperini. The Romans have also brought in some good signings over the summer to try and become one of the most entertaining and more effective teams in the Campeonato.

The Romans began the 2025/26 Serie A season with a slender 1-0 victory against Bologna at the Olimpico, courtesy of a winner scored by Wesley. They then went away to newly-promoted Pisa and snatched all three points via a second-half winner scored by one of Gasperini's latest project Matias Soule.

Torino preview: Stagnating Torino

Torino have been stagnating in Serie A for quite some time and the Piedmont-based outfit have again been underwhelming across all competitions thus far, now under the management of former Hellas Verona and Lazio boss Marco Baroni, who had done an extremely impressive job with the former a couple of seasons ago.

In their opening game of the season, Torino edged past Serie B side Modena by a goal to nil in the first round of the Coppa Italia before then being annihilated by five goals to nil by Internazionale at San Siro. They then shared a goalless draw with a UEFA Europa Conference League-fatigued Fiorentina at Stadio Grande Torino to continue an average start to the campaign.

Roma team news: Wesley a doubt

Brazilian right-back Wesley has enjoyed a magnificent start to his time at the Stadio Olimpico, but he is dealing with an injury issue ahead of the clash with Torino after a thigh injury sustained on international duty.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Svilar; Mario Hermoso, Mancini, Ndicka; Rensch, Cristante, Kone, Angelino; Matias Soule, Ferguson, El Shaarawy

Unavailable: Bove (Illness), Bailey (Injured)

Questionable: Wesley (Injured)

Torino team news: Nothing fresh

Dutch centre-back Perr Schuurs has been sidelined for almost two years, and they also have a couple of key injury doubts for this one, such as Ardian Ismajli and Saba Sazonov.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Franco Israel; Pedersen, Saul Coco, Guillermo Maripan, Biraghi; Casadei, Asllani, Ilic; Ngonge, Giovanni Simeone, Vlasic

Unavailable: Schuurs (Injured)

Questionable: Ismajli (Injured), Sazonov (Injured)

Roma vs Torino prediction

Torino lack quality in the final third and they are likely going to struggle to create much, with that attacking intent having been dwindling for the last few seasons. Roma haven't quite found their fluency just yet under Gasperini, but they do now have the potential to be a thrilling team whenever they play, it's just a question of when that drops, rather than if. They should still grind themselves to victory with home advantage in this one, even if they are still finding the patterns of play.

Roma vs Torino tip: Roma to win & under 3.5 goals
