Robin Montgomery has competed in just three events this season, making her return in Bogota at the end of last month. That resulted in a first-round exit, though she did compete well on the ITF circuit in Oeiras last week, winning three matches in a row before falling at the semi-final stage to Maja Chwalinska.
She goes up against Magda Linette. The Pole was in Billie Jean King Cup action last time out, though she did lose heavily to Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine in her singles match. Her best results of the season occurred at the start of the year, as she advanced through to the last eight in Hobart and Auckland. Linette's best outing at this event was a third-round appearance in 2024.
The head-to-head is 1-1, but this will be their first match on clay against each other. Linette can still be a dangerous player, having beaten Iga Swiatek at the Miami Open last week, and her experience and tactical discipline could prove to be the difference.
