Reilly Opelka will compete in Washington for the seventh time hoping for a deep run in a tournament he has largely underachieved.

The big-serving American has reached the round of 16 twice but never really made the impression he would have hoped in one of his ‘home’ events.

The world number 74 takes on his compatriot Murphy Cassone, a 22-year-old who has come through qualifying but will be playing in only his second tour-level match. 

How well the younger American performs will depend on how he copes with Opelka’s serve as well as the nerves of facing a big-name player on one of the biggest stages of his career so far.

We expect Cassone to be desperate to make a strong impact with USA bragging rights up for grabs, but not enough to deny Opelka from progressing to the next round.
