RB Leipzig preview: Closing the gap

By the time RB Leipzig kick off here, they could find themselves nine points behind Bayern Munich depending on the latter’s result against Freiburg the previous day. That underlines the importance of three points against a very tricky opponent. But Leipzig have won seven of ten in the Bundesliga so far this season.

Just before the international break, Leipzig were beaten 3-1 away at Hoffenheim, the latest to fall victims of the offensive resurgence that we’ve seen in recent weeks from Hoffenheim. But Bayern dropping points for the first time this season meant they only lost one point of ground.

Werder Bremen preview: Maintaining momentum

Werder Bremen need to try and pick up exactly where they left off before the two-week stoppage for internationals. Prior to that they had not lost in their last five Bundesliga fixtures, winning three home games on the bounce and drawing on the road against Heidenheim and Mainz respectively.

As it stands, three points for Werder would take them up to 18 for the season, with their negative goal difference perhaps stunting their progress slightly at the moment. They began the weekend inside the top eight, but after Saturday’s games they may find themselves lower.

RB Leipzig team news: Two out for hosts

RB Leipzig are missing Benjamin Henrichs once again and will also be without Bitshiabu. One of the biggest question marks is whether Ole Werner opts for Diomande or Bakayoko on the right side of the front three.

Predicted XI: (4-3-3): Gulacsi; Baku, Orban, Castello, Raum; Ouedraogo, Seiwald, Baumgartner; Bakayoko, Romulo, Nusa

Unavailable: Bitshiabu (Injured), Henrichs (Injured)

Werder Bremen team news: Treatment table filled

Werder Bremen are expected to be without up to four players for this match. Agu, Deman, Weister and centre-back Wober are all absent through injury, but Victor Boniface should start up top.

Predicted XI: (4-2-3-1): Backhaus; Sugawara, Pieper, Coulibaly, Friedl; Stage, Lynen; Grull, Schmid, Mbangula; Boniface

Unavailable: Agu (Injured), Deman (Injured), Weiser (Injured), Wober (Injured)

Questionable:

RB Leipzig vs Werder Bremen prediction

After such a disappointing result away at Hoffenheim, the international break probably came at the right moment for this RB Leipzig side. They’ve been able to reset and should come back stronger in this game. Werder Bremen on the flip side, have had their momentum halted following an unbeaten run of matches in the league before the break.

When comparing the two squads, Leipzig have the stronger one and most importantly, they boast home advantage, which is key when considering how good Werder’s results have been at their home. Therefore, consider backing victory for Ole Werner’s RB Leipzig.
