Rafael Jodar reached the next stage of the tournament in Marrakesh after a straight sets win over Dusan Lajovic. Jodar was not broken on serve and blasted 38 winners as he won 6-3 6-4 after one hour and 12 minutes. The young Spaniard reached the third-round of the Miami Open as a qualifier, and has five wins from his last six matches.
He now faces Tomas Machac, who is seeded fourth at this event. He suffered an early loss in Miami to Corentin Moutet. The Czech began his season strongly as he won the Adelaide International back in January, but his results have taken a dip as he lost in the opening rounds of the Open Occitanie and Qatar Open, while injury ruled him out of Indian Wells.
Machac does not have the strongest record on clay, and Jodar will fancy his chances of an upset here as he seeks a first ATP quarter-final.
