Rafael Jodar broke new ground in 2026 as he reached his first ever ATP quarter-final following a three set win over Tomas Machac. The young Spaniard broke as Machac was serving to stay in the first set but quickly went 4-0 down in the second. He was able to retrieve one of the breaks, but Machac forced a third set. Jodar, who reached the third-round of the Miami Open as a qualifier, regrouped to win 6-4 4-6 6-3. 

He now takes on a former finalist in Alexandre Muller. The Frenchman reached his third quarter-final at the ATP 250 event after getting past Vit Kopriva in straight sets. It was an attacking performance from Muller, who fired 28 winners on his way to winning 6-3 7-6 (3). This is the first time he has won consecutive matches in 2026.

Muller is enjoying a bit of a resurgence and performs well at this tournament historically, but Jodar’s talent is always rising, and he has a strong enough game to come through this one.
